9–32. Pages from Talbot’s The Pencil of Nature

The first book to be illustrated entirely with photographs, published in fascicles from 1844 to 1846, The Pencil of Nature had original prints mounted onto the printed page. Plate VII is a photogram. The use of modern-style type with ornate initials is typical of early Victorian book design.
