Lissitzky came to Germany from Russia at the end of 1921, and there is no indication that he traveled to the Netherlands before the end of 1922. It is possible that Adolf Behne, a close friend of Lissitzky, asked Wijdeveld to give
Lissitzky this commission, because of his dire straits at the time.
